Recent Improvements

Original Condition:	Business Information Services (BIS) has traditionally supported the security administration of PeopleSoft Financials (FIS) and provided backup for PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM).
Objective:	For years, Humboldt State University has been trying to consolidate enterprise application security forms into a single electronic version.
Resolution:	Using this year’s IT audit as a catalyst, BIS developed a new consolidated form, developed a functional security role within the department to coordinate the on-going activities, and started scanning documents for electronic filing and email distribution.
Impacts	Single location for all HCM, FIS, and Hyperion request forms making the process more efficient while saving time and paper. New system users now simultaneously get access and are assigned to a “training path” based on their role in the organization. Managers are now more responsible for their employees’ access with regard to enterprise systems. Having a functional security coordinator provides the separation of duties ideal for security administration. The new business process helped enforce the need for backup security roles. Reversing the process also provides a streamline solution for account needed to be closed or terminated.
